Facilitating the deployment of Japanese human resources for responding global outbreaks of emerging and Re-emerging infectious diseases: A cross-sectional study

IntroductionIn response to global outbreaks of infectious diseases, the need for support from organizations such as World Health Organization Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) is increasing. Identifying obstacles needs applicants could increase GOARN deployments Japan.MethodsThis cross-sectional study involved a web-based, self-administered questionnaire survey targeting Japanese participants in Tier 1.5 training workshop, held Tokyo December 2019.ResultsAll 47 workshop responded survey. Most responders were male their 30s 40s. Participants specialized case management (42.6%), infection prevention control (25.6%), epidemiology surveillance (19.1%). Only two (4.6%) had experienced deployment. Their motivations joining “Desire be part an international emerging disease team” (44.6%), “Interest making contribution” (19.1%), working government field diseases” (14.9%). Obstacles “Making time deployments” (45.7%) “Lack required professional skills knowledge” (40.4%). The constituted “Periodic simulation training” (51.1%), “Financial during (44.7%), “Technical (40.4%).ConclusionsOur revealed candidates Making upskilling deployment main obstacles. More practical (like 2.0) with other supports are needed. national framework desirable realize these supports.
